Writing Trauma: Narratives from the Former Yugoslavia and the Former Soviet Union
On 6 November 2026, the University of Padua will host the conference "Writing Trauma: Narratives from the Former Yugoslavia and the Former Soviet Union". The event will open with the presentation of the volume of the same title, published by Padova University Press (2026), one of the scholarly outcomes of the PRIN 2022 research project From Post-Trauma to Ecology: Contemporary Gender Narratives in Slavic Cultural Texts.
The volume brings together the findings of a scholarly endeavour in which the questions posed at the outset were progressively refined, at times shifting the very boundaries of the inquiry. The conference will build on this work, renewing the debate on representations of trauma in writing, forms of memory, and the complexities and possibilities of bearing witness. The presentations and concluding round-table discussion will give further impetus to a scholarly dialogue that extends beyond the project's formal conclusion, as established findings become the starting point for new avenues of research.
